Choosing a RED lipstick can be the formidable task, that most women decide not to take up.
Red Lipstick was launched in 1924 by Coco Chanel, she was one of the first to introduce a true Red lipstick. Being given so many reputations, it took Miss-break-the-rules-and-barrier Coco Chanel to really give woman the power to (gots to love her!). Marilyn Monroe (whom I avidly Love) was also known for her popular Red lips...and still is Iconic to this day.
Wearing the right shade Red lipstick can definatley be a part of your allure, it's the embodiment of glamour. Ladies...confidence and a little know-how, will make you easily pull it off. Having the perfect neutral balance, a TRUE Red lipstick looks great on just about everyone. To add some flair Red is definately the colour to be added to your makeup palette.
With that said, I'm going to share some tips, on to how to choose the right shade for your complexion.
- Knowing your tone:
- Choosing the right Red:
Olive Tones (neutral: no reds, blue or yellow undertones)
Choose orangey-red shades: these shades may not be that 'bold' but this subtle shade will still make a statement. Although suitable for everyone these shades look better on these tones.
Tips: To bring out the golden undertone and brighten tone; also wear coral reds.
Darker/Warmer Tones (red, yellows or golden brown undertone). The stigma that dark skin and red clashes….in my book NOPE! Try shades in brown base, burgundy, gold or wine really flatters these tones.
Tip: Pinker reds also enhance darker tones.
Cooler/Paler Tones (red or blue undertone, you burn but never tan)
Blueish reds such as 'cherry reds', looks way better on paler/cooler tones. Apart from making your teeth look whiter it, also cancels out the appearance of redness on your face.
Tip: To achieve the perfect lipcolour, I sometimes have to resort to the art of Blending – I rarely use only one shade of any lipstick. Most times to create a colour, blending helps ALOT. You could also do the same to achieve your perfect Red. Buy a few different shades of red and mix them. Microwave them in a microwavable container and then add to your palette.
I will post another time on how to wear Red in regards to: Formulas, Clothing and Age.
Well I hope these tips helped....So go ahead and confidently step out in your RED and exert that Power ;)
